How to choose a great domain name?

There are a few simple rules.

The shorter the better.
Make it catchy or easy to remember.
Make it relevant to your niche or industry.
The fewer words within the domain the better. Finding a domain which is 1 word is really hard these days (for a .com domain), 2 words, is more feasible. 3 words are borderline, and anything more should have a really special reason but I suggest against it. Unless it is extremely memorable.

Additionally, if this is your first domain name, I always advise people to buy their personal name. For example, in my case it's EranBucai.com.

This is for the simple reason that you are your own brand. Your name is what makes you unique. Even if you think your name may be stupid, I want to remind you all the great brands and companies you know. These brand names were named by and after a person, who when they got started, were just like you. Here are some notable examples:

Ford (automative)

And so many more.

Here are some examples of domain names I personally bought for my businesses:

EranFunnels.com = A simple combination of my name, Eran, and the word "Funnels". My freelance business that explains my process for helping people choose the best software for their online business, and then also helping them build their funnel 1-on-1.

CustomIntroVideos.com = A domain name for a side business where my team creates an custom branded introduction video for people's YouTube channel videos. Combination of the 3 words, Custom, Intro, and Videos.

WebsiteDIYCourse.com = A domain name for a sales funnel I wanted to create for my website building services. It starts off with a simple landing page to give a free gift in exchange for an email address and the follow up products to help someone DIY their website, such as my Website DIY courses. For example, my Systeme.io Website DIY course is found on WebsiteDIYcourse.com/systeme. This domain is based on the 3 words combination, "Website", "DIY" (a well known and easy to remember acronym), and "Course".

DogTrainerFunnels.com = This domain name is to serve a very specific niche of Dog Trainers. There are literally 10s of 1000s of dog trainers worldwide, and I discovered some time ago that a lot of them were looking to create an online course on New Zenler. And so, I created a sales funnel specifically to cater for that niche audience and created a Sales Page Template specifically for them and this is the capture page to bring them into my world. This domain name is a combination of "Dog", "Trainer" and "Funnels".

Another reason to buy a domain name is if you want to have have a higher chance of being found on on the search engines like Google. For example, I promote a software called "Podia", which is a software company that lets you build online courses and memberships. Since people who are interested to learn more about Podia, may type to google the search term "Podia Review".

So I bought the domain name, PodiaReview.com. While there are other factors that go into getting a website on the first page of google, I knew that this domain name would be a good one for this reason. I also bought the domain name PodiaReviews.com for the exact same reason and purpose.

Another thing to watch for when choosing a domain name, is seeing if the social media accounts are available. To do that, check the availability on a website called NameCheckr.com - I show how in this short Instagram video reel.

To wrap up this FAQ, I have a great explainer video from GoDaddy. I would like to note that even though I greatly appreciate GoDaddy's wonderful explainer video, I do not recommend buying products from GoDaddy. I'll give you my thoughts in this YouTube video.

For instance, if your business is cleaning windows, you’ll want your domain name to include the keywords “window” and “cleaning” or “clean”- because those are the words people will search when they need your service.

Numbers, whether spelled out or as digits, and dashes can create confusion. Avoid forcing customers into mental gymnastics trying to recall your online address.

The domain “bestwindowcleaning.com,” three short words, is way easier to remember and type than number1-windowcleaning-4u.com

For local businesses, including your city, state, or region in your domain helps your customers find you faster. For example, seattlewindowcleaning.com is more targeted than bestwindowcleaning.com.

Now for the extension…. that’s the part of the domain name following the dot. If you can get “.com,” go for it. It’s the most widely used extension, but it’s also been around so long that getting a short, memorable name that ends in .com can be a challenge.

Other popular extensions include .net, .org., .info. and .biz. Plus, hundreds of fun new ones are now available, like .guru, .shop, .nyc, and .actor. These descriptive extensions allow you to perfectly represent your business and boost your brand.

Speaking of your brand, you can protect and build it by purchasing misspelled versions of your domain name so customers who get it wrong are still ushered to your website. It’s also a good idea to purchase your domain with various extensions to prevent competitors from registering them.

Finally, make haste. Domain names sell fast. But most are affordable, so get your favorite domain registered now before someone else beats you to it.

Domain registrars, like GoDaddy, streamline the process of finding a good domain name because they know which names are and are not available and help with your search by suggesting relevant alternate domains when the one you want is already taken.

We live in a world that’s unpredictable. Without warning, we may have to make quick decisions that impact the health and safety of our loved ones. It’s easy to assume that we’ll be able to gather what we need when something unexpected happens. But few of us really know what will make the difference.

Imagine that your neighborhood begins to flood in the middle of the night. You may have to leave your home quickly, or wait until local authorities can provide help. In any situation, you want to be able to take care or your family for least 72 hours. Having a well-stocked, portable, and easy-to-find emergency kit will help make sure that you have the basic supplies to keep you and your family safe, no matter where you are.

Let’s talk about what goes into that kit. In an emergency, the basic services we use everyday make not work. For example, your water, electricity, gas and telephone service may not work, and it may be impossible to access cash from a bank. When these services are not available, an emergency kit can provide the basics.

For example, we all need water. The rule of thumb is two liters per person per day for 72 hours or 3 days. It’s a good idea to use small bottles that can be carried easily. Of course, we also need food. Because yoru kit needs to be ready at all times, use food that won’t spoil like canned goods, energy bars or dried food that can be stored longer. If needed, baby formula and pet food may be a good idea. And remember a multi-purpose tool that can open those cans.

So now your kit has a good start, food and water. What else? Well, it’s dark and there’s no electricity. A flashlight and radio will be handy to see where you’re going and help you stay informed. They both need power so pack extra batteries, or even better, buy the type that can be powered manually with a crank. Of course, an emergency kit wouldn’t be complete without a first aid kit with the basics like bandages, antiseptic and pain relievers.

With these items, food and water, flashlight and radio, and a first aid kit, we’ve covered the basics, but there are some items that may not be so obvious.

For example, it may be very difficult to get prescription medications in an emergency, or even long afterward. Including a couple of weeks worth of medication in the kit will help. Sanitary products like toilet paper and feminine supplies are a good idea too.

Lastly, keeping important documents like copies of birth certificates, wills, passports and insurance policies in your kit can make it easier to stay organized in an emergency. Other documents to include are copies of your emergency plans, maps and contact information for friends and family.

We all hope that emergencies don’t occur and your kit goes unused, but that’s no reason to delay. It’s your responsibility to start gathering supplies and thinking about what your family will need for at least 72 hours in an emergency.

Having an emergency kit is an easy way to have more peace of mind in an unpredictable world.

Like a kidnapped person, the information on your computer can now be held hostage by criminals, who demand a ransom to release it. This is called a ransomware attack and, unfortunately, it’s a growing problem. This video explains ransomware. It teaches:

Imagine a hostage situation. A criminal has kidnapped a person, tied them up and is now talking to the police. The kidnapper has a demand. He will trade the hostage for money.

This is called a ransom and it’s essentially a trade - the criminal wants payment for the freedom of the hostage. Today, this same idea can apply to our computers and devices.

Instead of kidnapping a person, criminals lock your computer, and demand a ransom from you to unlock it. This is called a Ransomware attack. Here’s how it usually works.

In order for a criminal to get access to your computer, you usually have to click on something like an email attachment or a link on a criminal website.

To encourage you to click attachments, criminals will try to make the email look official, or familiar, as if it came from a trustworthy source.

The attachment may look like a harmless document or photo. The same is true for websites with dangerous links. When when you click it, a program runs on your computer that locks your files and prevents you from accessing them.

Usually, a message appears on your screen that alerts you to the problem and includes instructions for solving it.

In most cases, the criminals demand a ransom to unlock the computer and require that payment is made in a way that is untraceable, like through Bitcoin. If payment is made, the criminals usually provide a code that can be used to unlocked the computer and files.

More sophisticated ransomware can also infect your computer through a network or by finding security holes that may not even require a click from you. Ransomware attacks are similar to other threats like viruses, worms and trojans.

Problems can be prevented by being a responsible computer user. Keep your operating system, browsers and applications up to date. And awareness is key. Only open attachments when you know the source and be suspicious of messages asking for privileges to access your computer. The criminals are sneaky.

Most antivirus programs can help you detect ransomware when it arrives and may be able to help you remove it. And finally, always keep a backup of your files on a hard drive or online service so you can recover if your computer remains locked.

Ransomware is a reality of using computers and the internet. With awareness and responsible computer practices, you can avoid problems and prevent your files from becoming hostages.

These days websites make security a priority, but it is hard to know when a website is secure, or what makes it so. This video teaches the basics of website security and how to recognize a secure site.

Whether it's buying shoes, managing bank accounts or just connecting with friends, most of us depend on websites. Unfortunately, it's easy be fooled by fake websites that are designed to give your money or private information to criminals.

Thankfully, it's now easier to know when a website is secure.

When you need to use a website to make a purchase or provide sensitive information, there are two big things to think about:

The first is the connection from your computer to the company's computer. Your name, credit card information and other things have to travel from one to the other. This connection needs to be secure. so that criminals can't access the information in route.

The second is knowing that you're working with a company you trust. If you're working with a company you trust using a secure connection, your information is safe. But how do you know?

Knowing what to look for in a browser is a big step to using secure websites. Let’s consider the connection we mentioned earlier.

Secure websites encrypt information before sending it between computers. this makes the information completely unreadable for criminals. Only the computer on the other end can read it, making it secure.

There are two big ways to tell the connection is secure…First is the address bar, where you’re used to seeing "http". Secure websites have an address that starts http"s" for secure.

You can also look for a padlock icon in the browser. If you see the "s" and padlock the connection is encrypted and secure.

But what about the organization behind the website? - how do we know it's not a criminal with a secure connection? Well, a new system makes this easy. Newer web browsers display color and company names in the address bar that help you know the site is trustworthy. It works like this. Organizations that depend on security can have their websites reviewed and validated by licensed unbiased companies called certificate authorities.

These rigorous reviews ensure the organization and website are trustworthy and using a secure connection. If the tests are passed, the site is issued an EV SSL certificate. and only sites with these certificates display the colored bar, including the company name, along with the address.

Green means Go, red means stop.

This review process means criminals can’t obtain the certificate that's required to display the colorful information. So when you see a site with the green info in the address bar, you can be sure it's legit.

Now, if you're reading the news or checking the weather, security doesn't matter as much, so don't be concerned if you don't see the green bar or security information. Security matters when you send sensitive information like credit card numbers, passwords and private info over the Internet.

For instance, if you're about to make a purchase, your browser holds the clues. Look for the "s" in the address and the padlock to make sure it's secure. And if you’re concerned that the site could be a scam, look for the green information.

With these things in place, you can feel confident that your information is safe and secure.
