How do I host videos professionally? (not YouTube)

To start with, I want to answer the question of why would you even want professional video hosting?

Typically professional video hosting is applicable when you are setting up a membership site or an online course.

There are software tools that help you with course hosting or membership sites, and some of those provide video hosting along with the service. Example of this is a company like Podia that I personally use, and they provide unlimited video hosting, unlimited courses, and so on, for $39/month.

Another example of this is Kartra, which is an all in one platform for your website, sales funnels, membership site, email marketing and so on. However, this is a classic example of limitations in video hosting. Their cheapest plan is $99/month, but they have a limit of 50 videos total. Their next plan is $199/month, and allows you to have unlimited videos. So it is important to know the pricing and features of whatever software you end up choosing and list out what you actually need.

If you are going to go with a software product like Kartra or Podia, you probably don't need video hosting.

But let's assume you want to set up your website on WordPress or ClickFunnels or EranFunnels. You may want to consider having professional video hosting for your landing page, sales page, webinar page, etc. These services are all great, but the video hosting is simply not included (with the exception of EranFunnels, there's a solution I set up for this exact problem, more on that later).

Professional hosting has hard costs, i.e. the companies who provide this service pay for storage. YouTube is free become it monetizes from advertising, but other companies require paying a subscription. There are a number of companies that provide this service. To name a few along with small input from me about having used them:

Vimeo = Great choice is you want basic video hosting. There are not special features like branding colours for your video play. If you want to see what vimeo looks like, ClickFunnels uses that for their sales pages. Here is an example from the Dot Com Secrets sales page - the video you see there, that's vimeo video hosting.

Wistia = the best choice, but also the most expensive one, a completely over-priced option in fact. It costs $99/month on their smallest plan. It's simply not worth the price in my opinion. Wistia is in fact the company that Podia partnered with. If you pay to Wistia directly, $99/month you get 10 videos limit. If you pay Podia $39/month, you get Wistia video hosting quality for unlimited videos. Makes no sense, but that's why I'm saying there's no point paying Wistia directly. VooPlayer / Spotlightr = this is a new player in the market but having used their service, it is a good option and a budget option. It was previously called VooPlayer and they either rebranded as Spotlightr or another company bought them - I'm not sure which. Either way, I personally did not like their pricing complexity, there are a lot of variables, and I found the admin office a bit difficult to navigate. However, this is a great option especially if you only want up to 5 videos hosted for example, as at the time of writing this, they have a free plan for up to 5 videos and 1GB limit total. If you want to just host a few videos, it's a good option. Like I said, I'm not a huge fan of their player, but it's a good budget option for professional video hosting.

Vidello = I saved the best for last. This is the one that I personally use. I pay $297/year. Their affiliate program is set up so that buy using an affiliate link, you actually get it cheaper ($22/month). I have a full video tutorial showing the software and the inside.

Since the paid plan let's you have 200 videos, you may not need that much. Because of that, I set up a solution with EranFunnels, so users of EranFunnels can buy video hosting from me directly (hosted by Vidello) for $12/year per video. Usually this makes sense if you only need 1-5 videos. Anything beyond that, you might as well go with the full Vidello plan yourself.

To summarize:

Option 1: Set up your entire tech set up with a company like Podia or Kartra and not have to worry about buying video hosting separately.

What is ConvertKit?

Convertkit is an email marketing software (or an email service provider) that is specifically built around the needs of bloggers, writers, podcasters, course creators, YouTubers, content creators and others who are working to build an audience.

The platform helps you to increase your email subscriber list and automate email marketing with drag-n-drop email sequences, workflow automation rules, landing page templates, custom opt-in forms, and more.

It has all the basic functionality you expect from an email marketing software.

Autoresponders (email sequences)

It has segmentation options so you have multiple lists and trigger different responses based on people's engagement with your email.

I have personally used ConvertKit and it is a great software to use. I have been on their free plan, and that's mainly what I use (limit of 1000 subscribers). I am not a paying subscriber.

What is GetResponse?

GetResponse, in operation since 1998, is one of the oldest and most well-known email marketing companies in the world.

Getresponse is an email marketing app that allows you to create a mailing list and capture data onto it create newsletters that can be sent to the subscribers on your mailing list automate your emails to subscribers via the use of autoresponders' view and analyse statistics related to your email marketing campaigns open rate, click-through, forwards etc.

Recently however, Getresponse has shifted its emphasis considerably: the product now aims to be more of an 'all-in-one' marketing solution rather than just an email marketing tool.

Accordingly, in addition to email marketing, Getresponse now also provides e-commerce features, webinar hosting, landing pages and automated sales funnels.

I have personally used GetResponse since August 2018.

Their customer support is 5-star. They have 24/7 human support, which is rare. They are always available and helpful.

Their email deliverability is great.

Being a long-standing software, they are easy to integrate with many other tools out there.

This is my number 1 recommendation for anyone starting online. Their basic plan is reasonably priced, it is easy to use, and has 24/7 support - which when you are getting started or technically challenged, is invaluable.

I personally do not find the value in their additional services of funnels, landing pages, webinars, etc. I simply use their basic plan for my autoresponder automation and sending broadcast emails to my list.

It integrates with EranFunnels too, with a simple copy and paste.

Is EranFunnels available in other languages?

How can you get traffic to your website?

Traffic means people. Real people, with problems that need solving. To succeed online, you don't need to "create" traffic. You simply need to find the pockets where your potential customers hang out and re-direct them to your website. The best place to learn how to do exactly that is by buying the book TRAFFIC SECRETS.

When you buy the book, there will be upsells. The only upsell I recommend you get is the invitation to add 3 more books (titled the "Secret Trilogy"). The combined cost is between $100-150 depending on where you are in the world. These books are the best investment for succeeding in your online business.

Forget about buying traffic, buying high ticket courses, hiring coaches. Just get those 3 books first and it will teach you what you need to know.

How? By encrypting - or scrambling - data while it passes between websites and web servers, keeping it from being intercepted. Once it reaches the intended recipient it is un-encrypted.

Thinking you don’t need SSL because you don’t sell stuff online? Think again. Your SSL certificate tells visitors you are the legitimate and verified owner of your site. Showing that you’re serious about security is a great way to earn trust.

To add SSL to your website, you simply install an SSL certificate. When your site has SSL from GoDaddy, a padlock icon as well as “https” appears in your customers’ browser bar to show that information they send to, or receive from, your site is safe from hackers.

You can also add an SSL site seal to your pages, to make it even more obvious to visitors that you’ve got their back.

And, bonus! An SSL certificate can boost your rankings in search results. Google and other search engines reward secure websites to encourage all website owners to get on board.

No business is too small or too new to protect its online customers and business reputation with an SSL certificate.

What is a Data Center? (Data Centre)

Data Centre is a giant complex of computer servers that host the internet. Think of your computer, it's small because there is a small amount of information stored.

But what about websites like Facebook? Amazon? Google?

These have a massive amount of data. The computers for these websites are many, and they are stored in what is known as Data Centers.

Example of these companies are GoDaddy, SiteGround, Namecheap, HostGator, Domain, and many more.

To make your website visible on the Web, your website’s files and data must be physically stored on a computer that is connected to the Internet. These large, high-powered computers are called web servers.

Website hosts are companies that physically house several web servers in one location, or what is sometimes referred to as a data center.

These companies host websites for us individuals and businesses.

Some companies are so big, like Facebook, Google and Amazon that have their own hosting because they are so large.

What is DNS? How does DNS work?

Hi there. In this video, you’ll learn about a crucial part of the Internet – the Domain Name System or DNS.

So what is DNS? Well, it’s a translation system that allows us humans to search the Internet using language we’re comfortable with. Without DNS, the Internet as we know it would not exist.

For example, you couldn’t do your shopping online; you’d have to drive to an actual store to buy your things. There would be no way to stream music or videos to your smartphone, and no way to video chat with a friend across the ocean, or even across the street. But what does DNS have to do with this?

The Internet is made up of computers that are set up in large networks around the world. These networks are connected by a web of underground and, in some cases, undersea wires.

Computers on the Internet communicate with each other using strings of numbers called Internet Protocol or IP addresses.

Now it’s one thing for computers to communicate using strings of numbers, but imagine if we humans had to memorize these seemingly random strings of numbers for every single website we wanted to find – not very realistic, huh? Well because of DNS, we don’t have to.

DNS translates the human-friendly domain names that we’re comfortable using, into the IP addresses that computers need to communicate with one another. The process starts with you and your web browser.

When you type a domain name into your web browser, your browser and computer determine if one of them already has the domain’s related IP address in their memory.

If it’s a domain you’ve visited recently – like the newspaper website you visit every morning, your browser may have stored the domain name and its IP address in memory, and can display the website in a split second.

If the domain isn’t hanging around in local memory, your computer takes the search out to the Internet, where it asks, or queries, a series of DNS servers, if they have the domain name in their memory or database.

The first DNS server that receives the query, checks its memory for the domain name. If it doesn’t find the domain name in its memory, it sends the query on to the next DNS server to see if it can help.

As soon as the domain name is found on a DNS server, that server returns the domain name and its associated IP address to the requesting DNS server, and on down the line until it arrives back at your computer.

Each time a requesting DNS server receives a domain name and IP address, the server stores the information in its memory, so any future requests for the domain name can be answered more quickly.

Once your computer has the IP address for the domain name, your browser knows where to find it on the Internet.

Your browser uses your computer to communicate with the server where the domain name is hosted and requests any associated files.The host server returns the files which then display your web browser.

Our ability to use domain names to quickly and easily retrieve websites and files from the Internet is entirely dependent on this tightly integrated and tiered line of communication.

So the next time you buy a pair of shoes online, listen to some music on your smartphone or video chat with a friend on another continent… remember, it’s not magic that lets you do things on the web – it’s DNS.
