We’re all familiar with pirates. Most often, these are criminals known for raiding merchant ships and stealing the goods the ship is carrying. This kind of piracy obviously breaks the law.

But piracy is not just limited to bands of criminals on the open ocean. Today piracy happens via computers on the open Internet. Instead of boarding ships, people use computers to pirate software, music, movies or other digital goods. This means they access, download, copy and distribute files without payment or the owner’s permission.

And unlike piracy on the seven seas, this kind of piracy might seem less risky, more anonymous, and maybe even justifiable to the pirate.

Whatever you believe about online piracy, the fact remains that it breaks the law and by understanding why, piracy may start to look a little bit different.

Think about it this way… in order for creators to keep making the products you love, they need a system that helps them earn a living from their talents. In most countries, that system is based on copyright law.

When someone creates something like a song, computer program or photograph, that creator automatically owns the copyright and has the right to control how it is used and by whom.

Online piracy is illegal because it breaks copyright law and prevents the creator from having control over what they create. But it’s not simply a matter of rights and laws.

Let’s consider the music industry. It may seem like piracy only hurts big corporations, but in reality, it also hurts the artists who make the music. For example, a song may have a songwriter, producer and performer. Often, the sales of a song or album are directly linked to the income of the artist who created it. When music is pirated, sales often suffer and with it, the incomes that support the artists’ work. Without income, your favorite artists may not make music in the future.

Software is another target of piracy. Like music, piracy threatens the software industry, but the biggest risk is using software that’s made by pirates. Here, criminal organizations copy and sell counterfeit software often at a huge discount. It may seem real, but pirated software may work poorly or not work at all. Further, compared to authentic software, it may lack support systems that keep it up-to-date and protected from viruses and criminals. If something goes wrong, support may not be an option.

To avoid pirated software, buy from trusted stores and websites and look for official packaging.

The bottom line is that piracy on the internet is illegal and could have serious consequences. But there’s more to it. Piracy is also a threat to the systems that help creators earn a living and keep our computers safe, supported and secure.

Most online course platforms and video hosting charges you based on video storage, the quality, the size of video, and etc.

There are times that a video that is too large won't even upload. Most video hosting solutions accept MP4 with more ease than other options or types. The smaller the files, the better.

Please note that there are also factors that may affect the quality output of your videos. On of them is if you are recording a video with really good camera, logitech for example, the size of the video file will easily increase even if it has shorter duration.

**The most efficient way I have found to convert large video files from .mov or over 1GB videos to smaller mp4 videos is through uploading it to a YouTube channel as unlisted video. Lastly, download it as shown on the picture below:

However, it is a very simple process.

(1) Go to Email Broadcasts

(2) Create a new list

(3) Go to "all contacts"

(4) Filter the exact contacts you want (you can do it by course, plan, role, tag, and lots more)

(5) Once you filtered the contacts correctly, check them all

(6) Click "add to email list"

(7) Choose the email list you want to add them to

Stewart is a good guy. He cares about the feelings of others and avoids saying insensitive things at the dinner table. He would never call someone a hurtful name on the street or yell rude comments in a restaurant.

But when Stewart goes online, he seems to become a different person. In his mind, the Internet is the wild, wild west, where he doesn’t need to use his real name. He feels anonymous.

He often writes provocative comments on blogs and video websites without contributing anything valuable. His discussions on Twitter are often mean-spirited and personal. And sometimes he writes to companies using unnecessary profanity. It’s kind of a joke to him - a way to mess with people.

Recently a friend recognized his online name on a few comments and gave him a call. She had seen horrible things that he said to her brother online, and wanted Stewart to know that it hurt him, personally. She had one question for Stewart: Why?

Stewart was speechless - he never meant to hurt anybody. Before that moment, he never even considered the real people who were the targets of his comments. How to set a custom domain as a home page in systeme.io (step-by-step)

This tutorial will show you how.

Here's the problem:

When you connect a domain name, like https://www.websitediycourse.com/, there is no automatic home page for you to edit.

You need that domain name to be a home page, a page on your website.

When you first connect your domain name, and you type that domain name, you end up with an error page (as shown in this tutorial).

You need to SET A HOME PAGE when you're creating your first funnel.

Once you set the home page (as shown in the tutorial) you'll have a little picture of a house on the custom domains page.

Note that the login page is also in the custom domain section of the website too.

If you’ve used the web, you’ve seen how website addresses, or URLs, help you move from site to site. If we look closely, there’s a lot more to URLs than meets the eye.

When you visit a web page, what appears on the screen usually lives on a computer called a server. The URL, which stands for Universal Resource Locator, tells your web browser exactly where to find the page or file you want on the server.

Imagine you love a dog photo on a web site and save a web page’s URL that looks like this.

You’re probably used to seeing a subdomain like “www” in front of website addresses. It’s a default that usually isn’t needed for links to work. However, some websites use this part of the URL to connect to a separate part of the website, like support.doggopics.com. And subdomains can be confusing. Criminals may try to fool you by adding a familiar subdomain to their website address.

That’s why paying attention to the domain name is so important. It tells the browser where to find the website’s server. It’s like a street address for finding a house.

After the domain name in the URL, there are words, separated by forward slashes.

But that’s not all. This page was designed with anchors, which means your web browser can go to a specific part of a page. The anchor in the URL can be found after a question mark and includes a hash symbol, like this:

This tells the browser to go the domain, find the right folder, the right page and then, the right part of the page.

As you can see, URLs contain a lot of information if you know where to look.

SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer. It’s technology that keeps sensitive information, like credit cards, social security numbers, user names and passwords out of the hands of cyber crooks.

Important note: While I greatly appreciate GoDaddy's wonderful explainer video, I do not recommend buying services from GoDaddy. Instead, I recommend SiteGround.

Have you ever noticed that some web addresses begin with “http” and others start with “https?” The difference is that “https” means the site has SSL security.

SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer. It’s technology that keeps sensitive information, like credit cards, social security numbers, user names and passwords out of the hands of cyber crooks.

How? By encrypting - or scrambling - data while it passes between websites and web servers, keeping it from being intercepted. Once it reaches the intended recipient it is un-encrypted.

Thinking you don’t need SSL because you don’t sell stuff online? Think again. Your SSL certificate tells visitors you are the legitimate and verified owner of your site. Showing that you’re serious about security is a great way to earn trust.

To add SSL to your website, you simply install an SSL certificate. When your site has SSL from GoDaddy, a padlock icon as well as “https” appears in your customers’ browser bar to show that information they send to, or receive from, your site is safe from hackers.

You can also add an SSL site seal to your pages, to make it even more obvious to visitors that you’ve got their back.

And, bonus! An SSL certificate can boost your rankings in search results. Google and other search engines reward secure websites to encourage all website owners to get on board.
